Have you ever had a summer that changed your life?
What makes you think of summer?
For a child it can be many things - trips to the beach, ice cream cones, vacation - good things. But for some children summer isn't a vacation. It is a time of less food and more stress. Each year, NORTH SHORE HOLIDAY HOUSE provides a sleep-away camp experience for Long Island girls living at the poverty level. We have been hosting campers for more than 100 years offering nutritious meals, teaching healthy living and helping foster self esteem. Many of our girls come year after year, some even returning as counselors. For others in foster home situations it is the only time they can be with their sisters. For all the girls it is a time of campfires and s’mores, playing and swimming, singing and dancing. It is pure summer bliss.
HOLIDAY HOUSE is a wonderful example of what a community can do when we work together. Founded by Huntington and Cold Spring Harbor women in 1914, the camp continues to thrive and is indeed a local institution. Thousands of young women have enjoyed summers at Holiday House and had the chance for a respite, some fun, and something unique that summer is all about. We remain true to our mission after all these years.
Please join us in our commitment to enrich the lives of these girls and empower them to navigate their world ahead.
