What makes you think of summer? For a child it can be many things - trips to the beach, ice cream cones, vacations - good things. But for some children, summer isn't a vacation. It is a time of less food and more stress. You can make a difference. Each year, North Shore Holiday House holds a Spring Benefit to support our summer program. We provide a two week sleep-away camp for 200 Long Island girls ages 7-11, who are living at the poverty level. We have been hosting campers for over 100 years, offering nutritious meals, teaching healthy living and helping foster self esteem. Many of our girls come to us year after year, some even have returned as counselors. For others in foster home situations, it is the only time they can be with their sisters. For all the girls it is a time of camp fires and s'mores, playing and swimming, singing and dancing. It is pure summer.

Holiday House is a wonderful example of what a community can do when we work together. Founded by Huntington and Cold Spring Harbor women in 1914, it continues to thrive and indeed is a local institution. Thousands of young women have enjoyed our camp and have had a chance for a respite, some fun, something unique that summer is all about. We remain true to our mission after all these years. Please join us at our Spring Benefit and help a young girl have a summer vacation that's all about Fireflies and Fairy Lights!
